Nga tai o Rangataua e whakarara mai nei
The title recalls an incident many centuries past when the young and impetuous warrior Te Rangihouhiri a Kahukino sought sanction from his grandfather Tamapahore to attack the celebrated leader Hikapa and his Ngati Hei people at Maungatapu pa. From the security of his own pa at Karamurumu, where he could see Rangataua in the far distance, Tamapahore gave much consideration to the request for he had good reason to aid in the downfall of Hikapa, who was responsible for the deaths of his brother Tamapinaki and son Tamapiri…
It’s been an absolute joy to put this book together. Lots of early mornings for the perfect images that run alongside local Nga Potiki a Tamapore and their traditional Tauparapara.
